The National Standard Distance Duathlon Championships will be hosted by Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club this Sunday, 12th March in Fleur-de-Lys and will be held under the auspices of the Malta Triathlon Federation.
The Duathlon will consist of an 8km (3 loops) run, a 30km (12 loops) cycle and a 5km (2 loops) run all held on the Triq l-Imdina (Notabile Road) Fleur-de-Lys, Birkirkara. Registrations will remain open until 0630hrs on Sunday morning, however athletes need to be registered with the Malta Triathlon Federation in order to compete.
The Duathlon on Sunday, will be raising the curtain on the 2023 season for the Club which will be hosting over twenty events around variety of sports including athletics, cycling, triathlon and open water swimming. The Club will also be hosting a number of events targeted towards youth multisport athletes.
Prior to the start of the 2023 event launch, Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club announced that it has signed up Malta based, Finnish triathlete Krista Kuusijarvi.
Kuusijarvi, who is fairly new to the local triathlon scene, recently took the club colours to the Oman Ironman 70.3 women’s podium, where she took first place.
The Club also has seasoned triathlete Keith Galea who had a highly successful year in 2022 where amongst highlights was his participation in the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Amongst other signings is veteran triathlete David Galea who brings a wealth of experience to the Club.
The Club will also be working closely on a number of events with the Malta Eastern Regional Council as part of their activities tied in to the 2023 European Capital of Sport initiative.
Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club events are held under the auspices of the respective National Federation to which the Club is affiliated. The Club is affiliated with Athletics Malta, the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta, the Malta Cycling Federation and the Malta Triathlon Federation.

The Club advises motorists that both sides of the road will be closed to vehicular traffic from 0730hrs until 0930hrs.
