The second stage of the Malta International Challenge Marathon continued to live up to expectations giving participants of this year’s event a true Challenge as strong winds and steady drizzles hit the Maltese Islands.
The second and shortest stage of the 3-day Challenge Marathon took place in Marsascala and consisted of a 5km flat course.
There was no change from yesterday’s lead group with Aaron Mifsud, Christian Micallef, Stefan Azzopardi and Matthew Xuereb putting their feet forward from the get go. Whilst Azzopardi was the first to lead at the start the group was relatively close to each other with Mifsud eventually taking the lead and secure his second victory for the weekend ahead of Christian Micallef and Stefan Azzopardi – the three runners registering a one second gap between each other.
In the females’ race, Nadine de Wilde made up for the wrong turning which she took yesterday and which cost her the win to forge ahead of second placed Caroline Ciappara. Clara Attard finished in third place.
The final stage of the 2023 Malta International Challenge Marathon takes place on Sunday 26th November. The Race will start at 0800hrs in St. Paul’s Bay and will finish at the National Aquarium in Qawra.
Birkirkara St. Joseph would like to thank Marsascala Local Council, LESA and all the marshals and officials assisting on the day.
