Birkirkara St Joseph Cyclists wrapped up this year’s cycling calendar in with a thrilling Criterium race at the Hal Far Go-Karts track. As expected, it was a fast and technical race which saw our riders take control from the start, with a commanding presence in the leading group.
John Camilleri initiated a bold breakaway, building a strong gap at the front. Despite a minor crash that interrupted his effort, John’s resilience shone as he re-joined the leaders and played a key role in the team’s strategy.
With four of our cyclists among the seven-man lead group, we had plenty of tactical options.
Matthew Portelli executed a perfectly timed attack on the final lap, securing an impressive victory.
Making his debut for the Club, Jacob Schembri clinched the U23 class win, while Daniel Briffa rounded off the podium in the Elite category.
John Camilleri delivered a strong finish in 5th place Elite, giving us three riders in the top five.
In the Masters category, David Cushing finished as runner-up, adding another notable result to the team’s tally.
Simon Azzopardi and Malcolm Aber also delivered solid performances, contributing to an exceptional day of racing for Bkara St Joseph.
This race showcased the team’s depth, versatility, and determination, setting the stage for an exciting year ahead.
