Jemima Farley wins Females’ category
The second race of the BSJ 5km Road Running Series once again saw what was a close repeat of the first race, with Charlton Debono and Mario Grech pushing each others limit until the final metres of the five kilometre course.
Grech took the lead from the get go, but with Debono hot on his heels it was evident that there would be intense competition between the two until the finish. A narrow gap separated the two for most of the race with Debono taking the lead approximately half way through the race. In the final stretch, Debono surged ahead to clinch his second consecutive win for this year’s Series, leaving Grech to settle for a close second. Chris Micallef rounded out the podium, finishing in third place.
In the women’s race, Jemima Farley delivered a strong performance, crossing the finish line not only as the top female runner but also securing a fourth place overall. Tara Abdilla followed Farley, showcasing strong form, while the young and talented Zija Fuji captured third place.
Medals to the top three finishers in the male and female categories were presented by Club President Raymond Grech.
The event also saw two lucky winners take home a Coros Heart Rate Monitor which was raffled amongst the athletes taking part. This time the winners were Mark Sciberras and Jeanette Muscat.
The Club thanked Coros Malta, the Mtarfa Local Council and LESA for supporting this event.
The final race of the 2024 BSJ 5k Road Running Series will take place on Tuesday 6th August at 1930hrs in Mtarfa
