Birkirkara St Joseph Holding Their own in Football Competitions

Birkirkara St. Joseph’s football teams are having a very good season in the respective divisions of both the Inter Amateur Soccer Competition (IASC) and the Malta Amateur Football Association, half way through the football season. In the second division league of the IASC, the Saints are currently joint first with Birzebbuga Tigers and Gzira ASC. As the table stands, Birkirkara St. Joseph, Gzira United ASC, Birzebbuga Tigers, and Rovers United have qualified to play in the promotion pool, where the first two teams classified will be promoted to the first division. Should Gzira United beat Birzebbuga Tigers in the final match of the first round, they will have a three-point head start for the upcoming promotion pool, as all teams carry their points to the second round. First classified will be crowned champions.

The second division league of the MAFA has reached the half-way stage with all teams heading to the second round. The Saints are finding the going a bit tougher in this competition, although they managed to get some very good results particularly against Ta’ Giorni Wanderers (2-2) and the win against Balluta Barracudas (3-2). It is still a long way to go, but the Saints are looking at improving their results in the second round matches.

Football Section Chairperson Robert Debono commented that he was very satisfied with the teams’ results and the commitment shown by his players. Ably assisted by Chris Sciberras, Debono said that the targets they have set at the beginning of the season are looking to be very reachable, and hopefully the Club will be competing in the top flight of one of the Associations in the forthcoming season.
