Mario Grech, Carmen Hili win the overall BSJ 5k Road Running Series.

Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club and Corsa hosted the grand finale of the annual BSJ 5k Road Running Series in Mtarfa earlier on this week.

The annual, three-part 5k Road Running series, has been attracting road running enthusiasts for many years.  Held against the backdrop of Mdina as the sun begins to set, the Mtarfa bypass has consistently been transformed into a bustling track for participants of all ages and fitness levels.  

The final race of the Series, was won by Brandon Muscat who stormed to victory in a time of 15:53, ahead of series winner Mario Grech who finished the race in a time of 16:05.   Three seconds behind him was Andrew Grech who had been on the chase for all of the Series.  The two Grechs took the Overall Series Podium and were joined by Joseph Borg.

The females’ race was won by veteran athlete Giselle Camilleri who completed the course in 19 minutes 17 seconds.  She was followed by Francesca Arrigo, who crossed the finish line in 19 minutes 41 seconds. In third place was Carmen Hili  in 20 minutes 2 seconds.   Hili emerged winner of the overall Series.  Joining her on the overall series podium were Marylou Fenech and Christina Sutton.

Trophies to the Race and Overall Series winners were presented by Club President Ray Grech and Corsa Director Matthew Pace.

“This series has become a much-anticipated event, fostering a sense of community and healthy competition and has for many embodied the satisfaction of fitness, camaraderie, and the shared pursuit of wellness against a scenic backdrop. ” commented Euchar Camilleri, Secretary General, Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club.

Following the trophies presentation, a Coros Malta Pace 2 Premium GPS watch was given to Mark Camilleri, who was randomly selected from all runners taking part on the day

Medals for the three races were distributed to finishers at the end of the Race. Athletes who were unable to collect their medal on the day will be able to do so from Eurosport, Psaila Street Birkirkara as of the 10th August.

The Club expressed its gratitude towards Mtarfa Local Council, Transport Malta, Agius Watches, agents of Coros Watches, Metropolis Pharma agents of Revival Rehydration products.

The next road running events being hosted by the Club will be the unique Malta International Challenge Marathon on the weekend of the 24th November and the Eurosport BSJ Fleur-de-Lys Road Races on the 13th December.
