There was no change in the top spots on Wednesday when Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club hosted the second race of the Garmin BSJ Open Water Swimming Championships, held under the auspices of the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta.
Luca Vella and Rossana Oddi, both representing Aquahub, won the second race of this year’s Championship.
Wednesday’s sea conditions were far more challenging than those of the first race with swimmers having to contend with some strong currents and high waves in Salina Bay.
Luca Vella kept a comfortable lead throughout the race, ahead of Giuseppe Borg who finished in second place. Thomas Gatt, took third place – three seconds ahead of last week’s third placed Liam Farrugia.
Last week’s female podium winners remained unchanged for the second race. Rossanna Oddi took the honours again, followed by Kaitlyn Muscat in second place and Michela Camilleri in third.
Medals were presented to the top three swimmers in the Male and Female categories by Mr Mark Gaglione, representing Medcomms Ltd, agents of Garmin in Malta.
The next race will take place on Wednesday 3rd July at 1830hrs in Salina. Race start waves will be announced one day before the race.
